A Unique Way to Read YA Romance in 2025

The more traditional way to enjoy young adult romance is to read a book from cover to cover. Nowadays, this can be done either physically or digitally. But how would you like to try something a little different?

I wrote a novel-length YA romance called “What Happens After You Confess Your Feelings to Someone?” It’s a story about a high school student named Chloe who has a big crush on a boy at her school named Mordecai. Meanwhile, her good friend Simon is in love with her.

Who will she choose? The decision is up to you.

The Format of the Story

I wrote two endings for this high school love story—one where Chloe chooses Mordecai and another where she chooses Simon. When you get to a certain chapter, you’ll get to decide which outcome you prefer. And then you can read the rest of the story based on that outcome.

“What Happens After You Confess Your Feelings to Someone?” is presented as a sequence of blog posts, with one chapter per post. While this concept isn’t new, having to become part of a membership specifically for the story and getting to choose the person the main character ends up with aren’t typical of the way people usually enjoy young adult romance.

And because this isn’t a traditional story, I’ve designed it so that you’ll need to join the What Happens After You Confess membership to read it.

What are the benefits of enjoying a teen romance like this? Here are two of them.

  1. Choice of Ending

Teen romances can have satisfying endings. But have you ever read a story where you wondered what would have happened if the main character picked someone else? In this story, you don’t have to wonder. And you don’t have to feel any disappointment if the main character doesn’t pick the person you thought she should. You get to choose the ending you prefer based on who you think Chloe should pick.

And the real beauty of it is, you can read both endings if you want to and then make your decision on which one you prefer. And if you don’t want to choose, you don’t have to.

  2. Special Features

In addition to reading the story, by joining the membership, you’ll be able to access special features like a spotlight on the main characters so you can learn more about them and their back story, along with deleted scenes. Once you fall in love with these characters (as I know you will), you’ll want to learn everything you can about them. And with these special features, you’ll be able to do just that.

While these features won’t be available right away, they will be uploaded at some point in the future. And you’ll have access to them as soon as they’re available. Additionally, with the features present alongside the story itself, accessing all of it will be convenient for you.

A Preview from the Story

Just to give you a taste of what you can look forward to, here’s an excerpt from Chapter 17. In this excerpt, Chloe is fantasizing about a party that Mordecai invited her and her friends to. At this point, she’s waiting for her parents’ permission to go. But that doesn’t stop her from daydreaming about what might happen when she does.

I try to focus on school as I await my parents’ decision. But all I can think about is Mordecai’s party. I already envision myself there. I imagine I’ll wear an incredible outfit and do my make-up like a pro, and he’ll see me and won’t be able to take his eyes off me the entire night. And then, when I’m about to leave, he’ll pull me aside and ask for a moment alone.

In a corner of his house away from the noise or on the front porch, he’ll say he’s been planning on asking me out for a long time, and he’s finally worked up the nerve to do it. But, of course, he’ll have to ask my parents’ permission before officially asking me. It won’t be easy to convince them to give him a chance, he knows, but he doesn’t care. He’ll do whatever it takes to earn their approval. And the night will end with a kiss…

I’m having a variation of this fantasy at lunch the next day. Krista waves her hand in front of my face to get my attention. “Chloe, you still with us?” she asks.

I fall out of my vision and back to earth. “Yeah, I’m here,” I say. “Sorry. I just got lost for a second.”

(Krista is Chloe’s best friend.)

What’s going to happen when Chloe actually goes to the party? You’ll just have to read the story to find out.
