After You Confess Your Feelings Poems
After You Confess Your Feelings Poems
I wrote a YA romance called “What Happens After You Confess Your Feelings to Someone?” It’s a story about a complicated high school love triangle that involves both friendship and unrequited love. While the story itself isn’t officially out, I also wrote seven poems based on the characters’ feelings. In this email series, you’ll get to read them.
About the Story
In the full story, Chloe is a studious high school student with a big crush on a boy at her school named Mordecai. He claims he would date her if she were allowed to date, but his actions say otherwise.
Mordecai has a secret, though—several, actually—secrets he can only tell Chloe. They’re secrets he carries with him from his troubled past. And when he needs help, Chloe is often the first one he turns to.
At the same time, Chloe has a good friend named Simon. He’s a new student at her school, and his love for Chloe is obvious from the start. Simon is the antithesis of Mordecai—generous, reliable, and parent-approved. But Simon’s nice guy ways are lost on Chloe. And it doesn’t help that he struggles to confess his feelings to her.
The Poems
Here are the poems you can look forward to reading in this email series:
“Your Fountain”: A poem about loving a friend who wants to keep the friendship secret (Chloe’s perspective)
“Confused”: A poem about loving someone who loves someone else (Simon’s perspective)
“Behind That Door”: A poem about moving on from someone you deeply loved (Chloe’s perspective)
“I Hurt You”: A poem about apologizing for hurting a friend (Simon’s perspective)
“The Message”: A poem about not wanting (but really wanting) to send your crush a message (Chloe’s perspective)
“How Do I Feel About You?”: A poem about wondering whether or not you love a friend (Mordecai’s perspective)
“Will It Always Be Like This?”: A poem about loving someone who knows how you feel but won’t share how they feel (Chloe’s perspective)
Samples
To give you a taste of the poems, here are a few samples.
From “Behind That Door”:
You’re gone
But you’re still here
You’re far
I feel you near
My dreams
Are where you live
My mind
Is like a sieve
And all it lets
Pass through
Are lovely thoughts
Of you
Memories
I should forget
But still
I haven’t yet.
From “Confused”:
What has he ever done for you
That you love him this way?
What will it take for me
To say the words that I must say?
And if I find the courage,
Will it matter anyway?
Or will you say, “That’s nice,”
Then make no changes on that day?
Maybe you would rather
Keep our friendship as it is
Maybe I want more
But you are satisfied with this,
With me there to comfort you
Each time he causes pain,
With me there to solace you
When he’s the one to blame.
From “The Message”:
It hurts, you know,
To think that
I’m always there for you
But when I ask you for support
You’re nowhere to turn to.
Can I even call us friends?
Maybe that would be a lie
I feel less like your friend
And more like your lullaby.
You come to me to soothe you
And we talk late at night
So, maybe lullaby’s the word
That’s more fitting, right?
To describe our connection
And what I am to you
Oh, how I long to be much more
I’ve given endless clues
To tell you what I really want
To ask if you would try
To see me as the only one
That you want by your side
But you seem hesitant
And you won’t tell me why
So, for now I’ll be content
To be your lullaby.

Why You Should Read the Poems
Sometimes it can be hard to find the words to express complicated emotions, like those that come with unrequited love for a friend, the struggle to confess your feelings to someone, and the struggle to know how you feel about someone. These poems give a voice to those kinds of feelings and emotions. And you don’t have to go out of your way to read them either. They’ll be delivered right to your inbox. It’s catharsis and convenience all in one.
And just so you know, I can only send out a certain number of emails each month. So, you have to act fast if you want to read the poems!
